Nice Treat – it was a nice Friday treat to say the least. Good game. Air 21 came back from 21 points down to within 1 but just came short at the end. They gave a good fight. I think Coach Franz Pumaren can’t be too mad about the effort, at least during the latter part of the game. Looks like, the Express are really back in the game. End game result, TnT 86, Air 21 83.

Canaleta for Senator – okay, maybe not. but at least Coach Chot Reyes might want to consider him for the National Team. He has the height, the athleticism, can play multiple positions, and looks like he would thrive in the dribble & drive system (that’s what it’s called right? correct me if I’m wrong please). And it doesn’t hurt that he had experienced playing international ball.

Cool Cat – that nickname suits him well. From his college days until the pro, he has shown that skill wherein it feels like he’s always in control of his game. It must be the La Salle system huh? I’m glad him and coach Fran are back in each others arms. We’re hoping to see more of that, Mr. Cortez. Keep it up.

Little Piece of Heaven – talking about getting a nice treat, it’s really something when you see a competitive, exciting basketball game. Those games wherein the result comes down to the last possession. The kind of game that makes me stand up and hold my breath in anticipation of the last shot, miss or make. It’s a different kind of high.

Take It To The Next Level – GlobalPort now has 2 National players on their team – Gary David and Japeth Aguilar. No pressure but expectations are much higher this time around for this team to succeed. And they got former national players too in Sol Mercado and Rommel Adducul. Interesting indeed. Wishing them all the best, and of course the rest of the PBA.

Imported – Wow. Justin Williams and Renaldo Balkman? Really? I’d like to thank the PBA owners for their willingness to spend on quality players, former NBA players at that. I think it takes Philippine basketball to the next level. Keep it up, Billionaires!

Little Piece of Heaven – watching the PBA live (on TV) like it was 1999. I just dated myself huh? 🙂 Seeing the live game earlier took me back to my high school days. I like the feeling of getting excited again to watch basketball after a long day in school, thinking about nothing but basketball. It’s a nice feeling. And I like that the PBA is slowly becoming a habit for me again. Up next – watching it live in the Arena. Sending it to the universe.

Good Start – it was a nice game. A 2 point win by the Batang Piers. I hope this is a preview of things to come. Mabuhay ang Philippine Basketball.

Random Thoughts on the Players:

*Japeth Aguilar is playing a lot of minutes so far. I think this is what he needs. Let’s see how this will pan out. He’s playing a decent game thus far – 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists after three quarters. I hope he gets his act together. I really think he’s got a lot of potential. Update: he ended with 16pts, 9rebs, 3blks, player of the game. not bad eh? Most importantly, ended it with a win.

*Arwind Santos, you may be Philippine National Team snub but I think you’re still one of the bests. Just keep playing your game. I hope this will only motivate you more in playing harder and better.

*Justin Williams – I’m starting to like this guy. He seemed really passionate in helping out the team. It feels like he really care. He had 3 dunks already with 18 points before getting thrown out of the game due to inadvertent elbow. It doesn’t seem like he meant to hurt June Mar Fajardo to be fair with him. And he was so happy, getting back to the court after the game, hugging his teammates, carrying Sol Mercado like they’ve won the championship already! I think it’s good for the game, for the PBA, for the fans. Apir, Justin!

*Gary David looks like he’s back to his old form and that’s a good thing. I can’t wait to see him look at his hands again like they’re on fire! Keep ’em burning Gary D! Looking forward to a 50 point game this season, or more.

*Rommel Adducul is a Hall of Famer for sure. His game might have regressed in the recent years but the things he has done throughout his basketball career is something else. From being one of the most dominant big men in college to becoming the face of the defunct MBA to being a solid contributor in the PBA. Not mentioning his contributions in and out the playing court. We salute you, General.

Karma Police – so this is how it feels like when I was being difficult to my manager ha? Really, life has a way of getting back at you. I remember when I was giving my managers a hard time because I thought I know better and that their ideas suck. And even if i was correct about their ideas being bad or not favorable, I shouldn’t have given them the eye and the shoulder mixed with facial expressions and sarcasm. But to be fair with me, I wasn’t like that the whole time. I have come to a point where I learned to respect their views, sucky or not =P So, I should be getting the same result sooner or later right? Positivity! 🙂

Just A Phase  – I told myself lately, Man, I miss those people. I never thought I would. My former bosses, colleagues, my former station, being in class, etc. Yeah, I think I’m going through that phase. This shall pass. I guess I wasn’t prepared emotionally and that everything happened so fast I didn’t get to prepare for this. Oh well. It’s all good. This should help me appreciate the things I have right now and cherish the moment. Another life lesson from the universe.

He’s The norMAN! – what a way to announce your return. That goes for Norman Black, who for some time was away from the professional basketball scene to lord over the collegiate ranks. And he’s back, this time with another championship belt to brag about. He’s on a roll man. He won 5 titles in a row for Ateneo and then followed suit with another championship on his first season back to PBA! What a genius. He’s truly a gift to Philippine basketball. Keep it up, coach!

Little Piece of Heaven – I’m not sure if I have mentioned about this on one of the random thoughts but really I find comfort in seeing an organized, clean room. May it be in a magazine or our own room, it’s just pleasing to the eyes and soul. It feels like it’s so peaceful and relaxing even just by looking at it, or better yet, being in it. I guess this goes as well for the other aspects of our lives. Universe is telling us to be organized, throw away the clutter, clean up, and you should have a peace of mind. Amen.

2013 NBA All-Stars – the starters for this year’s All Star game was announced earlier and I must say the result was I think fair and the players selected were deserving. For the East we have Rajon Rondo, DWade, LBJ, ‘Melo, and KG. On the other side we have CP3, Kobe, Durant, Blake Griffin, and Dwight. Of course there will the “snubs” but I’m sure they’ll get their chance to come off the bench as an All Star reserve. If they’re really deserving then I’m sure the coaches will notice. I was just wondering, would ‘Melo throw a pass to KG? Would they chest bump after making a nice play? Talk about awkward. For those who didn’t know what happened a couple of weeks ago, you need to look it up, now. Let the awkwardness games begin!

Team Pilipinas, Lesgow! – Talk about good news for the Philippines in general when we were awarded with the rights to host the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship . About time I must say. Now we gotta worry about assembling a formidable team and I’m glad to hear that all PBA teams are on board. Well, at least according to the press release. I guess I’ll believe it when I see the starting line up come August 1st. Oh sorry, positivity, right. On the flip side, we hope everything goes well in Lebanon and the neighboring countries. Peace on earth. Love balls, not guns. 🙂

Little Piece of Heaven – A clean and dry bathroom floor. Call it whatever but I find some happiness every time I set my bare foot on our very nice, clean, AND dry bathroom floor. Pissing has never been this good. Not pissed of at all 🙂 If I could only make the floor dry all the time.

Freak Show in 3, 2, 1… – the freak show also known as the election 2013 has officially started. It’s all good. At least it would create jobs and such for a few of our friends even on a short term basis. I just hope everything goes well, no more killing, hating, bitterness and all. Yeah, it’s like wishing for the moon right. But I know it will happen for us. I know it is happening already for  at least 1 or 2 or 10 islands on our beloved 7,107. Let’s all enjoy the show.

Taking Its Toll – travelling to and from work has never been this tall of an order for me. It drains the energy out of me, just seeing the traffic jam and all the cars and buses. Man. Oh well. I guess it’s all part of it. Not complaining, just saying. I guess I just have to enjoy the ride, eh? I know I’ll get used to it. So help me God.

Random Thoughts

Random Thoughts

Random basketball thoughts from PBA to NBA to commentators/announcers of the game.

Not So Harden To Let Go – well, they had to do what they had to otherwise they will either get hostage by the amount of salary he’s gonna command by the end of this season (not because he is a bad man but mainly because he’s that good of a basketball player) or they get nothing in return for him. Oh well.. I think it’s all good for both parties. Let’s get it on!

Best Commissioner In All Of Sport – that is NBA commissioner David Stern. Arguably the best there is in American sports. Players and owners may not be in favor of the many things he brought to the table but most of it were for the betterment of the league I must say. And with that, you will be missed. Well, not yet, and that’s a good thing.

Rising Aces – the dark horse of this young PBA season. Who would have thought that their rookie would make so much of a difference and help turn around their young season. Looking at their roster, they’ve got a really formidable team. With a reliable guy on each of the position. I just hope they sustain it. The next few months should become more interesting if it’s not already.

Little Piece of Heaven – seeing Antonio getting at least interested with the game. He won’t let go of that basketball after seeing it. And then before sleeping, we sat in front of the TV and he was somehow watching the game I was watching. I hope he liked it and that he will like it more. Can’t wait to play ball with you my man.

JVG and Mike Breen – they are the best in what they do. I admire these two folks for not what they do on the court but for what they do and say just a little bit outside of it. They are two of the few guys who would make me glued on the TV because of what they say and have to say about the game in general. More power to them and thank you ESPN for hiring these two.

NBA 2012 – 2013 Season in 3, 2, 1….

Bench Decorum – come on team, you know better. I like the way you’re trying to improve the game and such but I think this is a little too much. You take away the excitement and you make the players and coaching staff hold back. I understand that you’re thinking of things like it might help escalate an altercation on the court into something else if players are standing there on the bench and all but it’s not like it has happened one too many times in any of your games. Again, I understand. I just see more disadvantages than benefits from this rule. Well, what do I know right? I haven’t seen the full details of the rule I must admit; just sharing my two cents.

Bunch of Flop – and in another basketball development, NBA is now going to start penalizing players who flop. I like David Stern’s response to my man Dirk’s comment and said that he’d like to see more of their basketball skills rather than their acting skills. Good. Now the question is, how do you clearly define flopping? Do you give the benefit of the doubt that the player wasn’t really acting and it was a good defense during the game, and then when you review the game afterwards you come back at the player and say, “hey you! you’re suspended next game for being such a good actor!”? The ever wise man Mark Cuban explained it best here.

Little Piece of Heaven – Getting a haircut. Kind of got addicted to it, if that’s even possible. It’s relaxing. It’s like getting a massage for me. And, it doesn’t hurt that it leads to another piece of heaven, which is seeing a very handsome man in front of the mirror every time I look at it. I see you nodding. =)

Welcome Back, Penny! – I wish as a basketball player (or maybe not) but instead as a minority owner of his hometown Memphis. I’ll take that any day. Him getting involved in basketball is always a good thing. I guess I will have to add the Grizz on my list of favorite teams. Penny from heaven.

Need For Sheed – another player we would like to welcome back to the basketball world is Rasheed Wallace, as a player for the Knicks. I’m not sure if that’s the best place for him and his talent, same goes for the Knicks, but I think he still have something left in the tank. How much? That we will have to see this upcoming season. Whatever the situation is, I wish ‘Sheed all the best. Go get more of those technical fouls! =)
