Nice Treat – it was a nice Friday treat to say the least. Good game. Air 21 came back from 21 points down to within 1 but just came short at the end. They gave a good fight. I think Coach Franz Pumaren can’t be too mad about the effort, at least during the latter part of the game. Looks like, the Express are really back in the game. End game result, TnT 86, Air 21 83.

Canaleta for Senator – okay, maybe not. but at least Coach Chot Reyes might want to consider him for the National Team. He has the height, the athleticism, can play multiple positions, and looks like he would thrive in the dribble & drive system (that’s what it’s called right? correct me if I’m wrong please). And it doesn’t hurt that he had experienced playing international ball.

Cool Cat – that nickname suits him well. From his college days until the pro, he has shown that skill wherein it feels like he’s always in control of his game. It must be the La Salle system huh? I’m glad him and coach Fran are back in each others arms. We’re hoping to see more of that, Mr. Cortez. Keep it up.

Little Piece of Heaven – talking about getting a nice treat, it’s really something when you see a competitive, exciting basketball game. Those games wherein the result comes down to the last possession. The kind of game that makes me stand up and hold my breath in anticipation of the last shot, miss or make. It’s a different kind of high.

Take It To The Next Level – GlobalPort now has 2 National players on their team – Gary David and Japeth Aguilar. No pressure but expectations are much higher this time around for this team to succeed. And they got former national players too in Sol Mercado and Rommel Adducul. Interesting indeed. Wishing them all the best, and of course the rest of the PBA.

Imported – Wow. Justin Williams and Renaldo Balkman? Really? I’d like to thank the PBA owners for their willingness to spend on quality players, former NBA players at that. I think it takes Philippine basketball to the next level. Keep it up, Billionaires!

Little Piece of Heaven – watching the PBA live (on TV) like it was 1999. I just dated myself huh? 🙂 Seeing the live game earlier took me back to my high school days. I like the feeling of getting excited again to watch basketball after a long day in school, thinking about nothing but basketball. It’s a nice feeling. And I like that the PBA is slowly becoming a habit for me again. Up next – watching it live in the Arena. Sending it to the universe.

Good Start – it was a nice game. A 2 point win by the Batang Piers. I hope this is a preview of things to come. Mabuhay ang Philippine Basketball.

Random Thoughts on the Players:

*Japeth Aguilar is playing a lot of minutes so far. I think this is what he needs. Let’s see how this will pan out. He’s playing a decent game thus far – 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists after three quarters. I hope he gets his act together. I really think he’s got a lot of potential. Update: he ended with 16pts, 9rebs, 3blks, player of the game. not bad eh? Most importantly, ended it with a win.

*Arwind Santos, you may be Philippine National Team snub but I think you’re still one of the bests. Just keep playing your game. I hope this will only motivate you more in playing harder and better.

*Justin Williams – I’m starting to like this guy. He seemed really passionate in helping out the team. It feels like he really care. He had 3 dunks already with 18 points before getting thrown out of the game due to inadvertent elbow. It doesn’t seem like he meant to hurt June Mar Fajardo to be fair with him. And he was so happy, getting back to the court after the game, hugging his teammates, carrying Sol Mercado like they’ve won the championship already! I think it’s good for the game, for the PBA, for the fans. Apir, Justin!

*Gary David looks like he’s back to his old form and that’s a good thing. I can’t wait to see him look at his hands again like they’re on fire! Keep ’em burning Gary D! Looking forward to a 50 point game this season, or more.

*Rommel Adducul is a Hall of Famer for sure. His game might have regressed in the recent years but the things he has done throughout his basketball career is something else. From being one of the most dominant big men in college to becoming the face of the defunct MBA to being a solid contributor in the PBA. Not mentioning his contributions in and out the playing court. We salute you, General.

Karma Police – so this is how it feels like when I was being difficult to my manager ha? Really, life has a way of getting back at you. I remember when I was giving my managers a hard time because I thought I know better and that their ideas suck. And even if i was correct about their ideas being bad or not favorable, I shouldn’t have given them the eye and the shoulder mixed with facial expressions and sarcasm. But to be fair with me, I wasn’t like that the whole time. I have come to a point where I learned to respect their views, sucky or not =P So, I should be getting the same result sooner or later right? Positivity! 🙂

Just A Phase  – I told myself lately, Man, I miss those people. I never thought I would. My former bosses, colleagues, my former station, being in class, etc. Yeah, I think I’m going through that phase. This shall pass. I guess I wasn’t prepared emotionally and that everything happened so fast I didn’t get to prepare for this. Oh well. It’s all good. This should help me appreciate the things I have right now and cherish the moment. Another life lesson from the universe.

He’s The norMAN! – what a way to announce your return. That goes for Norman Black, who for some time was away from the professional basketball scene to lord over the collegiate ranks. And he’s back, this time with another championship belt to brag about. He’s on a roll man. He won 5 titles in a row for Ateneo and then followed suit with another championship on his first season back to PBA! What a genius. He’s truly a gift to Philippine basketball. Keep it up, coach!

Little Piece of Heaven – I’m not sure if I have mentioned about this on one of the random thoughts but really I find comfort in seeing an organized, clean room. May it be in a magazine or our own room, it’s just pleasing to the eyes and soul. It feels like it’s so peaceful and relaxing even just by looking at it, or better yet, being in it. I guess this goes as well for the other aspects of our lives. Universe is telling us to be organized, throw away the clutter, clean up, and you should have a peace of mind. Amen.

2013 NBA All-Stars – the starters for this year’s All Star game was announced earlier and I must say the result was I think fair and the players selected were deserving. For the East we have Rajon Rondo, DWade, LBJ, ‘Melo, and KG. On the other side we have CP3, Kobe, Durant, Blake Griffin, and Dwight. Of course there will the “snubs” but I’m sure they’ll get their chance to come off the bench as an All Star reserve. If they’re really deserving then I’m sure the coaches will notice. I was just wondering, would ‘Melo throw a pass to KG? Would they chest bump after making a nice play? Talk about awkward. For those who didn’t know what happened a couple of weeks ago, you need to look it up, now. Let the awkwardness games begin!

2013 NBA Champs

Random thoughts while watching the NBA opening game between the Hollywood Lakers versus my Dallas Mavericks.

The Future of Mavs – is definitely bright. And you can bet Jae Crowder is going to be part of that promising future. The rook looked like a veteran out there. Showed a glimpse of respectable defense, a couple of rebounds, a few jump shots, and throw in a legit three to cap it all off. I say legit because that stroke looked like he has that three shot really on his offensive arsenal. Steal of the draft. I hope he continues his progress and become a formidable player for the Mavs.

Happy With What I’m Seeing – right now, My Mavs is up by 13 points with less than 9 minutes remaining and so far so good.  My Mavs seemed to have jelled nicely during the off season. Just like with Crowder, I hope it continues and that we sustain it. I know it’s just one game, well, it’s just three quarters and a half. I shouldn’t be too happy with whatever’s happening, right? The season is long and again it’s just day one. Mavs all the way.

Little Piece of Heaven – seeing a live NBA game on TV.  Since they have decided to charge more for NBA TV, it has become a rarity for me at least to see a live game on free TV. I must say my thanks to Studio 23 for at least being considerate to the feelings of a poor handsome basketball fan to bring the last game of a triple header this opening day. Thank you.

$90M – no that’s not the income generated by the NBA today. not the salary of Eddy Curry ( I should be crucified for saying that). not whatever you think it is. 90 million dollars is the luxury tax that the Lakers will have to pay next year if and when they decide to sign Howard for a long term contract. You think that’s a whole lot of money? Not! compared to what they are going to earn/they are earning now and for the next 20 years (they just signed a TV contract worth $20 billion. not a typo. that’s really with a B). Rich gets richer.

Pressure’s On – for everyone on the Lakers not named Kobe Bryant. Dwight Howard (with the shadow of the great Laker centers hovering around his grave), Steve Nash (a little bit), Mike Brown (anything less than a Finals appearance would mean end of the road for the coach with a roster like this). It’s just one game. You have 81 more and then some to prove every doubter wrong including Mr. Mavericks and the awesome owner of this blog.

82 – 0 – so much for the Lakers getting a sweep of the regular season. not today. not this year. not against My Mavs. Now, Dallas has a chance to go 82 and 0. alright. it’s just one game. I heard you.

Dallas 99, Los Angeles 91.

NBA Top Ten Plays

Looking forward to more of these.

The new NBA Season is upon us and I can’t wait! With it’s full schedule and the endless list of subplots, it can’t get any better tan this. This is drama at its best.

Here are the Top Ten Games to look forward to this upcoming NBA 2012-2013 Season. Let’s get it on!

10.) The Dwightmare Saga, LAL at ORL, March 12 – I know it’s one of those few games when Amway Center will be jam packed. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Dwight will fake an injury just so he won’t have to attend this game. I hope he does. It’s gonna be crazy out there.

9.) The Return of Steve Nash, LAL at PHX, January 30 – I know Mr.MVP won’t be receiving the same treatment as Mr.DPOY when he finally sets foot on his previous home court. There’s gonna love in the air.

8.) No Harden Feelings, HOU at OKC, November 28 – we don’t have to wait that long to see how James Harden would respond to him getting traded away by his former team. Is this the time we see the firs 50 point game of the season?

7.) Finals Rematch, MIA at OKC, December 25 – what’s a better Christmas gift than seeing these two teams get it on for the first time again since June? Oh, I see. More games on Christmas day you said? oh well. But this should be the highlight of that day (aside from what we’re going to get from our Ninong and Ninang of course).

6.) Happy Holi-games, X’mas Day Games, December 25 – just like what we mentioned, this should make the day extra special. I’m glad they’re not taking a day off for this day (me, as an NBA fan, being selfish). Celtics vs. Nets, Knicks vs. Lakers, Heat vs. Thunder, Rockets vs. Bulls, and Nuggets vs. Clippers. Ho ho ho…

5.) The Battle of NYC , BRN vs NYK, November 1 – not sure if the first game will push through mainly because of frankenstorm sandy (boooo…). We wish that everyone will be safe and dry. But we have a few more dates to see who’s the real king of New York. We can wait.

4.) The Battle of LAX, LAC vs LAL, November 2, January 4, February 14, and April 7 – is Los Angeles really that big? Two teams playing in the same venue. So, who gets the home logo on the mentioned dates? I don’t know. Couldn’t care less really. I’m looking forward more on how many dunks will Pau Gasol get from Blake, DeAndre, and Ryan.

3.) Linsanity All Over Again, HOU at NYK, December 17 – I’m pretty sure, The Garden will go crazy on this date. They love this guy that much and I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear a lot of jeers (for the home team) and cheers (for Lin) on this game.

2.) A Traitor’s Return?, MIA at BOS, January 27 – with all of the drama surrounding his transfer to their bitter rival (better rival?), it’d be exciting to see how the faithful Celtics will respond to the arrival of their prodigal son.

1.) Starting the Season Right, Opening Day Games, October 30 – Miami getting their championship ring, the Heat battling the Celtics on the same day, Ray Allen getting a hard foul from Kevin Garnett on the same game, THE Eddy Curry getting the start for My Mavs, oh wait…

Let’s rock and roll! Here’s to a wonderful year years of basketball.
